The Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1886 and became a joint fire district in 1964.  Currently, they number at 60 members - 38 firefighters, 9 rescue squad personnel and 15 auxiliary members.

The present day location is at 137 Beechwood Road in Sharon Springs.  Fire protection is extended to the entire Town of Sharon and a  portion of the Town of Seward - approximately 40 square miles.  The fire department is funded entirely by taxes and fundraisers.  Fund drives are held for apparatus.  Equipment is purchased on a 30-year plan, and the department selects quality apparatus with the intention of utilizing it for that period of time.
