Welcome to Sharon Springs sign

Rotary International is one of the world's largest club-based humanitarian organizations and in February 2005 celebrated its 100th anniversary.  "Service Above Self",  the Rotary motto, examines Rotary's roots in downtown Chicago, the city of its birth. The organization's first service project was the purchase of a horse so a local physician could make house calls. Soon after, the club sponsored the construction of Chicago's first public "comfort station" (restroom). Rotarians can be seen in many active roles both locally and globally.  One of the most prominent being PolioPlus campaign, Rotary is a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

The Sharon Springs Rotary, sponsored by the Middleburgh club, received its charter January 3, 1948 with 21 local businessmen as Charter members.  Sharon Springs Rotary has been the home club of approximately 80 people over the almost 60 years of community service with membership averaging around 15 members.  Many of those 80 members have passed away, some transferred as they moved from the area, and a few have left the organization. Currently the club has 12 very dedicated members and although few in numbers, commitment and dedication among them runs strong.  Always a hardy group, the Sharon Rotary has been the sparkplug in numerous projects to better their community including the building of the Leland O. White Laboratory building, relocation of the Chestnut Street Schoolhouse, Sharon Springs Central School Woodland playground, the Welcome to Sharon signs, and the Sharon Springs Community Website . . . just to name a few.

Sharon Springs Rotary is a family focused group and welcomes visiting Rotarians and their families from around the corner or around the world to join us at our weekly meetings and many club events.  We also welcome visitors to attend, ask questions, find out who we really are and maybe you too will see the importance of Rotary and want to be part of an international family of volunteers.
